Medications Medications will only be administered by the director. No medication will be given without parental consent and an authorized prescription label on the mediation stating the doctors instructions for dosage. All medications must be given to the director.
School Calendar and Holidays We follow the school year schedule of the Isle of Wight County Public Schools, though we may vary at times. If the public schools close for a holiday, the preschool is also closed. Our school year begins the Monday after Labor Day and ends the Thursday before Memorial Day.
Inclement Weather In the event of snow, ice, or any weather that may cause the public schools to either close or to open late, the preschool will be closed. If you hear of any code (orange, red, or blue) concerning Isle of Wight Public Schools, it means that they are either opening late or are closed. Therefore, the preschool will be closed.
Transportation The preschool does not furnish transportation, but if you need help arranging a car pool, we will try to assist you in finding other families who are interested. The school is not responsible for the safety of children in car pools. When transporting preschool children, we must abide by the new Child Passenger Law. All children under age six must be properly restrained in a child safety seat or booster seat. We do rely on parent volunteers for transportation on any field trips. We are required to obtain the following information: current drivers license, proof of insurance, and a current inspection sticker. We also will obtain with your permission a DMV driving record.
Messages The teacher cannot accept verbal messages from the children. Please write a note, or telephone the director.
Visitation and Conferences You are invited to come and observe at anytime after we are well settled into a routine. We do ask that you contact the director prior to your visit. When visiting, we ask that you try not to disturb the class. Please remember that the teachers first responsibility is to the children. Arrival and dismissal times are not the best opportunities for conferences. However, the director and teachers welcome parents to set a time for a conference or visit. If the preschool feels a need to meet parents for a consultation, we will call you to set an appointment. Parent/Teacher Conference Night is held mid-way through our year to assess your childs progress. Please remember that a crisis or change at home affects a childâ€s behavior at school. Please let the teacher know of joyous happenings, upsetting experiences, or any important changes at home which may affect your childs behavior. This knowledge will help the teacher understand your child better, and you can be assured that all information will remain confidential. Also, let the teacher know what your child has been told about an impending birth, serious illness, adoption, or a recent death, so we may know how to relate to your child concerning these occurrences.
