Newsletters
We will send home monthly newsletters.  Information regarding special activities, field trips, and other items of interest will be included. The teachers will also send home classroom updates on a regular basis. It is our intent to keep you well informed of our classroom activities.

Adjusting to School
It is best to let your child make his own adjustment to school.  With most children this can be accomplished readily by leaving him with the teacher at the door to his room, even though he may cry.  We find that separation anxiety is more readily resolved when the parent leaves - even when it is breaking your heart!  Be assured that we will comfort him and help him adjust to his new environment.  If you would like, you are free to wait down the hall until your child calms down.  However, if your child remains unhappy for an unusual length of time, we will call you.  It should comfort you to know that in the history of the preschool, we have yet to call a parent because a child is unhappy!

What your child will be doing at our preschool.....
Each thing we do at Smithfield Baptist Preschool has one ultimate goal - it must be fun!  Any activity will be chosen or modified to suit each individual child, depending upon his age and level of readiness. In other words, our two- and three-year-olds will not be introduced to the same activities as our four- and five-year-olds. Following are some samples of what happens each day at our preschool:
 The children.......

  • Learn cooperation, sharing, good manners, respect for other children and adults, and basic Christian principles as modeled by our teachers.
  • Play imaginatively with their teachers and with one another.
  • Play with water, sand, and other messy materials.
  • Have plenty of opportunities to practice gross motor skills such as running, hopping, climbing, swinging, throwing balls, etc
  • Participate in music class each day.
  • Are read to each day.
  • Participate in plenty of read-aloud, nursery rhymes, finger plays, and circle games.
  • Are introduced to letters and numbers through crafts, games, manipulatives, and activity sheets.
  • Learn about nature through active exploration.
  • Are given lots of tender loving care by all of us!
